Lucy Wood - Founder and Head Coach



Lucy was part of the Great Britain Women's Hockey Squad from 2014-2017. She won a Silver medal with Team England at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014 and in 2015 made her Great Britain debut in Spain. She currently plays her club hockey with Old Georgian's Hockey Club in the National Conference Outdoor League and National Division 2 Indoor League.

Lucy holds an enhanced DBS, she is fully insured by England Hockey and is a 'Great Britain Advanced Coach'.
Lucy is a qualified Physiotherapist and Personal Trainer too with experience of working with players of all ages, both in club and school environments.
Lucy is extremely passionate about working with players on their strength and conditioning, technical skills, mindset and tactical knowledge whilst always making sure enjoyment is at the heart of every session.

St George's College (2022-present) Hockey professional. Coaching both boys and girls age groups from U12-U18.
Elliott is also working towards his FIH Level 3 coach qualification.

Cath Nicoholson - Assistant Coach

Cath was an International hockey player representing England & Great Britain, winning Bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games and European Championships. She has a wealth of experience in hockey coaching, leading and managing successful teams and individual players both at school and club level.
Over the past 20 years Cath has led the Sevenoaks School hockey programme to provide opportunity for all as well as excellence and performance at the top level. She has recently moved to take up a new post as Assistant Director of Hockey at Epsom College where she joins a very experienced coaching team.
Charlotte Gammon - Assistant Coach

International playing career:
Represented England U16s and U18s, travelling the world and competing at the highest level.
Teaching/coaching:
Part-time primary teacher and school hockey coach
Coached alongside Lucy at Flame Hockey for several years, helping inspire and develop the next generation of players.
As a qualified teacher and experienced international player, Charlotte is passionate about helping players develop their skills, confidence and enjoyment of the game.
Hockey runs in the family—both Charlotte’s parents played, and she is now a mum of three boys, who all love hockey too!

Lauren Martin - Assistant Coach

Playing background:
Lauren currently plays for Reading 2s in National Division 1 after moving this season from Guildford Hockey Club. She has previously represented Canterbury in the Premier League and played regional level hockey as a junior athlete.
Coaching/teaching:
Lauren works at Crosfields School in Reading as a PE teacher and coach within their hockey programme.
She brings energy to sessions and is brilliant at sharing her knowledge and expertise with young players.
Amanda Billington (AKA Bunse) - GK Coach

Amanda is the current Brighton Ladies 1ST XI keeper and an England Masters World Champion. She has also played for Horsham HC in the National League. Bunse has years of experience working with young keepers across the South of England. She has taught PE and coached hockey in primary and secondary schools, leading teams to success at National Finals.
Fun fact - she was Lucy’s first hockey coach!
Bunse joins the Flame Hockey coaching team for the season ahead and we look forward to welcoming her!
